Bought this for my tween who is learning to play clarinet.It is too advanced for her current level. It is probably more suited for a high school student. Another child could easily have been overwhelmed. Octave jumps, accidentals, time changes, and 1/8th notes abound.But, my tween is an eager learner. We took "Hedwig's theme" which is mostly quarter notes, and broke down about two lines last night, looking up fingerings, writing in the note names, and trying it. She was thrilled with the results of a recognizable tune that wasn't "jingle bells."The fingering guide in this book was different from those in her "learn to play" book, which was a little confusing, as well.The CD is great for learning the tune of the music, but way too fast a tempo for even an intermediate student to keep up.
I don't remember the description of this too well, but I got this for my daughter who is in her first year of playing clarinet. she does really well so to reward her i got her this book as she loves harry potter and I thought it would break the monotony of playing the same songs over and over. well this book is rather advanced and it says so on the corner of it when you receive it but i don't recall it actually saying in the description that it is for more advanced players. so hopefully she can use it in the future. for now she's not using it as it is overwhelming.
Son has been playing trumpet for only a year. I bought hoping it would inspire some playing during the summer. Sadly, this did not. It was very difficult for him to read the music. Perhaps when he gets better, he will love it as he loves Harry Potter. The CD was a bonus and he enjoyed listening to it. Fingers crossed he will be able to play it eventually!
I bought this to encourage my son to keep practicing his clarinet. He had done pretty well with the school issued book but was losing enthusiasm. Having music to one of his favorite movies really rekindled his excitement. It is difficult for a beginner like him and I don't expect he'll master it for a good long while but he has fun and shows improvement.
Fantastic for Harry Potter fans and alto saxophone players. This book is a highlight of the best songs from the movies. Definitely check the complete list of songs before purchasing. Would highly recommend :D
Christmas gift. My kid is a huger Harry Potter and John Williams fan. She has played the clarinet for six years and has no problem with the musical arrangement. It was a nice surprise stocking stuffer.
This seems like a great product, it is a beautiful book and is good quality. I was so excited to find it for my daughter's Easter basket this year. Unfortunately she will not be able to use this copy because the description failed to mention that it is for a viola, not a violin. If you look closely at the upper left corner in the picture, you can see the word viola, but I did not notice it until the book arrived. I am now returning this copy and having the VIOLIN version over nighted to us so I can still surprise my daughter on Easter morning. Truly wish that minor detail would have been included in the description.
