Bob Bennett is an excellent business man and provides a frank, clear, usable, and inspirational book on rabbits as livestock. This is not a pet rabbit book, though it covers rabbits thoroughly enough including their breeds, feeding, care, and housing in a detail that would also be useful to owners of pet rabbits. I have read a lot of farming and livestock books. They are normally not as good as Bennett's book. He is to the point, yet covers each topic in adequate detail. I found it a very easy and enjoyable read, yet I go back to it for reference.After this book, I was able get the appropriate supplies and was able to successfully obtain quality breeding stock that are doing very well.
Animal torture book, suggestions for forced mating, selling to research labs, and never letting the animal see or feel the ground or real sunshine, just a tiny all wire box. I ordered this online because there aren’t any rabbit care books at the store. That’s the downside of ordering online, I thought I was buying a book for how to take care of rabbits, not how to be a rabbit farmer. If I was a rabbit farmer I would still be unhappy with this book that doesn’t think rabbits are living breathing brings worthy of some kind of natural life experience while alive
Very informative book. Some of the info is a little outdated, but I think you could be successful raising rabbits even if this was the only book you had.
The only update is some colored pictures. If you already own this book, don't waste your time. If you are interested in rabbits, order a used copy of the 4th edition and save yourself some money (it has all the same great information).

I’ve read a guide for children, read articles, and even watched a video on rabbit care. So, I thought this would be a great way to expand my knowledge.That said, it happened because, I learned more about rabbit breeds and their uses. The various hutches- right and wrong, were detailed. There’s also a helpful section on feeding. However, it must be noted that rabbits CANNOT go 24 hours without eating. That’s a good way to have one to get sick or worse. He also discussed the various diseases and treatments. He spends a more time on the former, though.Speaking of the advice, I’ll admit that most of the real issue is good. The only real issue is if I was a prospective rabbit buyer, I’d just want a pet. Needless to say, most of this guide would be useless to me.On another note, all the info was mixed with pretension. It started with the preface when he mentioned high school boys and money. Why wouldn’t they think that when it’s kind of a bad idea to just give your kid money? And the last time I checked, guys aren’t the ones taught to just sit back, and let someone else take care of them.The next time involved lop ears. I get wanting your animals to look a certain way. However, there was the implication of them not being real rabbits. He even so far as to mock people for preferring them. Then again, he later insults the whole of Americans for seeing rabbits as pets instead of food. I don’t know if I should chalk it up to something to be expected or point out that how that’s alienating potential readers.Then again, it wasn’t just him. A few of the boxed tidbits off to the side were written by other people. And they weren’t too concerned about tone.All that said, there’s some good information in here. It’s just buried by pretension and a little dubious advice. The bigger issue is him flat out saying he mainly raises rabbits for meat. That made me wary about taking his advice.
This an excellent for breeders and pet owners interested in breeding and showing. The house rabbit people on here need to keep their opinions to themselves.
