In over eight decades I have developed some specific tastes for food, music and entertainment. When it comes to entertainment, admittedly, I tend toward the Disney level of fantasy and adventure rather than the predominant gratuitous sex and gore-centric violence of most of the offerings today. If that appeals to you, read on. If you prefer the other, this series may not be your cup of fantasy tea.When I am lifted on the wings of fantasy, there are three things that appeal to me: 1. A great plot with some unexpected twists and some character surprises; 2. Character development that allows me to relate to the characters, their actions and decisions; and, 3. The ability to enjoy this escape into fantasy without mentally feeling the need for a hot, cleansing shower to rid me of the garbage that I had to ingest while enjoying the fantasy.1. The plot: Who wouldn't like the capability of having in your pocket a stone or stones that allowed you to know the truth of all things, to move more quickly than the eye could follow, to heal wounded friends and companions, and to call upon intelligence beyond your own. But, as in real life, many gifts of this type have specific drawbacks and downsides;2. The characters: I love characters that are developed to the point of feeling like I would recognize this person if I ran into them in the street. I like the fact that these are not perfect super heroes but rather people who have weaknesses, who occasionally give into temptation; who struggle with their decisions, etc. I also appreciate the fact that not everyone follows the path that you would like them to follow; just as often happens in real life.3. The cleansing shower: Although the world seems to think that only sex and heavy, "realistic" violence can make a character real, these characters go through their choices, their successes and their failures without the need to accentuate in great detail the baser side of humanity.All of the above expectations are well met for me in this series as in the other series' by this author. I have been hooked on his kind of story telling since I read the Cremelino Prophecy (The Path of Destiny) series. His writing pulls me through the pages, always wanting to keep going and find out what is going to happen next. Each series has always left me wishing that it hadn't ended there and wanting to spend more time with those characters that I had come to know.The Truth Seer series did not disappoint in any of the above areas. I found myself thinking of how some of these characteristics/capabilities could affect me in my life if they were available. And, how I would respond to the ability to apply them in real life. Again, particularly Shaelene, assumed a reality of character that found me rooting for her, fearing for her and wanting to help her make some of the decisions that she had to make.I can't say much more than the above without revealing too much of the plot. But, if you enjoy good, clean fun and adventure while being pulled through the pages to the next part of the adventure, I feel that you, too, will enjoy this series and have rated it accordingly.
Well rounded, believable characters, a fast pace and a storyline that flows well. This series was a joy to read. Suitable for young adults through to older readers, the story encompasses many moral and physical challanges in a way that enables the reader to immerse themselves fully within its well written lines. Im sad its over.
The premise of this series is sound, but the timeline relative to changes in the characters is not realistic. The world building of the author is incomplete and relatively lawless, with discrepancies in timeline and distance. Characters behave in unrealistic manner. Overall it was a good book for someone in their early teens. As an adult who loves YA Fiction I found these books dry and boarder-line irritating to read through due to lack of vocabulary that leads to high rate of repetition and simplistic age old predictability of tale.
Clever, crafty and beautifully written story!!Spellbinding story of a beautiful land and a strong and honorable people!I recommend this book to everyone!
I don't normally review books, but this story was amazing. Billed as YA, the story was riveting and kept this middle aged man's interest to where I stayed up until 1:30 AM in order to finish the final book. Any book that keeps me awake so I can read is top notch in my estimation. Currently reading another of his series, and if it is anything like this one, I won't be disappointed.
The story picked up quickly and then it just pulled me in. I had bought the 3 books together as a set and am very glad I did. I enjoyed it very much and will look forward to more stories by this author.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a different take on magic. You really got a feel for the characters. You really wanted them to succeed in their quests. Interesting situations the character were put in. Would highly recommend this book for all ages.
Good Adventure with different aspects of different styles of life had different areas of a country. Not everybody is accepted for who they are in this series. Many times I was disappointed with the main character but she is very very young emotionally and somewhat mentally
