About the Author
Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) was born in the small village of Kraljevec, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now in Croatia), where he grew up (see right). As a young man, he lived in Weimar and Berlin, where he became a well-published scientific, literary, and philosophical scholar, known especially for his work with Goethe’s scientific writings. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he began to develop his early philosophical principles into an approach to systematic research into psychological and spiritual phenomena. Formally beginning his spiritual teaching career under the auspices of the Theosophical Society, Steiner came to use the term Anthroposophy (and spiritual science) for his philosophy, spiritual research, and findings. The influence of Steiner’s multifaceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, various therapies, philosophy, religious renewal, Waldorf education, education for special needs, threefold economics, biodynamic agriculture, Goethean science, architecture, and the arts of drama, speech, and eurythmy. In 1924, Rudolf Steiner founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which today has branches throughout the world. He died in Dornach, Switzerland.

The Inner Nature of Music taps into esoteric ideas regarding the point and purpose of musical expression and its affects on the performer as well as the listener. Not an easy read, however, well worth the effort to comprehend Steiner's thinking and research. I found the book tremendously insightful as a practicing pianist. If you are looking for an "unaccredited view" of music, this is your salvation!
One of his books. Where other works claim to reveal the metaphysical nature of sound and music this one actually delivers. It takes the subject deeper than you might expect and this from direct personal experience. I recommend it highly.
This seemed somewhat complicated and I failed to find the data I was searching for when I purchased the book.
incisive and perfect. As a musician who has played from Jacksonville FL to New York City, I found Steiner's insights to be dead-on.
An excellent book. However, I would only recommend this book to those who are familiar with Rudolf Steiner and Anthroposophy - those who have read and absorbed the content of his "basic" books: Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and It's Attainment; Theosophy; An Outline of Occult Science; and Christianity as Mystical Fact. A very worthwhile pursuit! Also, a knowledge of music to begin with is helpful, but not essential.
